Hali'i Kai Pool Hours: The Ocean Club's New 9PM Close

From September 1, 2026 the Ocean Club pool at Hali’i Kai closes an hour later on five nights out of seven. That is the whole news, and it is worth knowing before you plan an evening, because the restaurant beside the pool is not changing with it.

The short answer

Effective September 1, 2026. The Ocean Club pool, hot tub, and oceanfront fitness hale at Hali’i Kai open at 6:00 AM every day. From Wednesday through Sunday they close at 9:00 PM. On Monday and Tuesday they close at 8:00 PM. Towel service runs from 8:00 AM until close. All times are Hawai’i Standard Time, which does not observe daylight saving, so the offset from the mainland shifts twice a year even though our clocks never move.

This is a change. Until September 1, 2026, everything closes at 8:00 PM seven nights a week. The new schedule is permanent and runs year round, not seasonally.

The Ocean Club restaurant and bar hours are not changing. It stays 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily, with happy hour from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

When the first late night actually is

September 1, 2026 is a Tuesday, and Tuesday is one of the two 8:00 PM nights. So the policy takes effect that day. The first evening anyone can stay in the water until 9:00 PM is Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

If you are arriving on a Tuesday, the pool closes at eight that night and at nine the next. Small thing, but it is the sort of detail that turns into a disappointed walk back from the gate.

The restaurant is not on the same clock

The Ocean Club is really two operations sharing one lovely piece of shoreline. The facilities are one. The kitchen and bar are the other, and they keep their own hours:

• Pool, hot tub, fitness hale (from September 1, 2026): 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM Wednesday through Sunday, 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday and Tuesday.
• Restaurant and bar: 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily, happy hour 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

So on the five late nights there is an hour where the pool is open and the bar is not. If you want a drink in your hand at half past eight, buy it before the bar closes at eight.

Which facilities the extra hour covers

Three things, all on the same schedule: the lagoon-style pool, the oceanfront hot tub beside it, and the fitness hale.

The tennis and pickleball courts and the putting green are separate and keep their own posted schedule.

Access to all of it, plus towel service at the pool and the gym, comes through the community’s daily resort fee rather than a separate charge. What the extra hour is actually good for

It means something different depending on when you visit. On the Kohala Coast the sun drops a good hour and a half earlier in December than it does in June, so a 9:00 PM close in winter is a proper dark swim under the deck lights, and in summer it is barely past golden hour.

The people it helps most, in our experience:

• Families on mainland time. You land in the afternoon, everyone is wired, and the pool is still open for a long while yet.
• Anyone who wants dinner and a swim. Eat at six, be in the water by eight. That sequence did not work under the old hours.
• Whoever is doing the workouts. A session in the fitness hale after a full day out, rather than instead of one. In winter, humpbacks are visible off this stretch of coast from November through March, though not after dark.

The stars out here are also worth the late swim on a clear night. There is very little light between Hali’i Kai and the water.

The honest trade-offs

Four things we would want to know:

• This is a longer evening, not a new night-swim scene. The deck is lit to residential levels, not resort levels.
• Community quiet hours begin at 9:00 PM, which is exactly when the pool closes on the late nights. The extra hour ends at the community’s bedtime by design, and the walk back through the gated grounds is a quiet one.
• Monday and Tuesday still close at 8:00 PM. If you are booking a short midweek stay, check which two nights you actually have.

The club can also close early for weather or maintenance.

Why older sources still say 8 PM

If you see 8:00 PM published anywhere for the Hali’i Kai pool, hot tub or fitness hale, that is the schedule in place until September 1, 2026. From that date it remains correct for Monday and Tuesday nights, and for the restaurant every night. It is not correct for Wednesday through Sunday.

Expect the old number to linger for a while in third-party listing sites, in Google’s business listing until it refreshes, in guest reviews written before September 2026, and in older copies of the rental agreement. The community is also commonly written Halii Kai without the ʻokina, which is how most of those listings spell it.

One more source of confusion worth naming: Marriott’s Waikoloa Ocean Club is a different property in Waikoloa Beach Resort with a similar name and completely different hours.
