Aloha! I’m James, founder and Director of Guest Experience at Polu Hospitality Group LLC. Mahalo nui loa for your interest in Polu Resorts. I wanted to personally write this post to share what guests love about Polu, and why I started this company.
The Inspiration
I was fortunate to grow up visiting Hawaii since 2010. I had a keen interest in resorts, hotels, and theme parks and remember walking around Hali’i Kai thinking about what it would be like to run a hospitality business here. Originally from Canada, the idea of beautiful scenery and palm trees year-round sounded great too.
The Beginning
In 2023, a Hali’i Kai neighbor brought me out paddling in a canoe off the coast of our property. Looking back at Mauna Kea with the sun rising triggered the thought, “what am I doing living in a city?” This was day one of planning what would become Polu Resorts. In 2024 my former business was founded, and we provided services to a handful of properties in the Waikoloa Beach Resort area. In September of 2025, I started Polu Hospitality Group and the division Polu Resorts. Finally launching my full vision of what vacation rental properties could be.
The Mission
Our mission is short and honest:

We welcome people from across the country and the world. Each family, couple, and group is unique. Our team applies that industry practice to our service standards at Polu Resorts.
Some of our guests seek quiet stays, minimal interactions, and come to rejuvenate. Others look to make new friends and take on adventures. No matter if you fall on either end or somewhere in-between, our goal is to offer the experience you’re visiting for.
It is easy to compete by setting low nightly rates and cleaning fees, but hard to compete with great service. We set ourselves apart by not only doing the big things well, but the little things too.
