A seaside royal residence turned museum on Ali'i Drive, its koa halls full of the Hawaiian monarchy: feather work, quilts, portraits, and grand island furniture.
Ocean
Gentle rolling breaks and warm water make Hawai'i Island a forgiving place to stand up for the first time. Instructors have most beginners riding within the hour.
Land
The Valley of the Kings drops a thousand feet to a black-sand shore and taro fields laced with waterfalls. The overlook is one of Hawaii's great views.
Your evenings here
Dinner a short walk away at the Ocean Club, toes in the sand at Lava Lava, or a special-occasion table up the coast. A few places to start, with our concierge ready to plan the rest.

When the night calls for something memorable, these are the oceanfront tables we send our guests to.
Good to know
Yes, the full villa is air-conditioned, and its position above the quiet Coconut Grove keeps a trade-wind breeze moving through the upstairs lanai. You have access to the thermostat and can set the temperature.
Up to six guests across three bedrooms, with three full bathrooms. It suits a family or two couples traveling together.
No, the nearest BBQ is located in Coconut Grove just steps from the suite. The main lanai features outdoor seating for meals in the breeze.
At a minimum, all properties provide: Salt, pepper, sugar, cooking oils, spices, aluminum foil, plastic food wrap, paper towel, dish & dishwasher detergent, & trash bags. For stays of 14 nights or less, we'll provide extras at no charge.
All properties provide laundry detergent (standard and free & clear). For stays of 14 nights or less, we'll provide extras at no charge. For the safety of young guests, bleach and harsh cleaning chemicals are not provided.
Being elegant is difficult on this topic… But we think you’ll appreciate the honesty. We can’t stand cheap bath tissue (‘toilet paper’). That’s why all stays include name-brand ultra soft or ultra strong high quality supplies. Three extra rolls are found under the bathroom vanity. For stays of 14 nights or less, we'll provide extras at no charge. Soap wise, each bathroom is stocked with our favorite pure plant base shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and body lotion. Your morning and evening routines should feel like a mini spa visit.
No need to pay for extra luggage! Property owners use our soft 100% cotton towels in each bathroom. When out exploring, take our Polu Resorts beach towels with you. After a long day of adventure or an even longer day watching the clouds from the beach, slip under our silky soft Cariloha sheets. For those flying business class, instead of linens, pack that extra outfit in the third free suitcase.
We’ve been asked this question a few times. We take displeasure in mattress quality seriously, but we’ve yet to get any. Property owners purchase high-quality mattresses as your experience is important. On the extreme side, some guests have asked us what make and model the mattresses was so they can buy their own. It likely wasn’t the mattress alone that made their sleep great, but a mix of the fresh trade winds, vitamin D, cool room, and quiet setting. Just another reason to come back next year.
While we understand families and groups come in all sizes, property owners want everyone to have a great rest and great experience. Unit occupancy is based on two people per king/queen bed, and one person per twin bed. Our guests with large families and groups often book two properties when more beds are needed. Depending on the property, group size, and at the property owners approval, a twin sized portable cot can be rented via the concierge desk. Connect with us if you have any questions.
Fast enough to stream HD video of a far away tropical beach to every one of your devices! Depending on the suite, connection speeds vary from a minimum of ~300Mbps to a maximum of 1Gbps. Speeds vary based on device age, wireless conditions, number of connected devices, and location inside. For remote workers that haven’t told the office they’re going to Hawai’i, we offer wired ethernet connections directly into the router. For families with tweens & teenagers, everyone can stream Netflix to their own device after spending a day of family fun together. WiFi 6 routers are deployed in most units, with rolling upgrades to WiFi 7 underway.
The words “exceptional hospitality” and “basic startup supplies” are never seen together (unless you count this FAQ). Directions to the nearest supermarket for more trash bags and toilet paper only adds to the injury. Guests staying 14 nights or less can call on the concierge desk for re-stock of any items within the suite, free of charge. Guests choose Polu Resorts for a vacation, not a scavenger hunt.
We’re coffee people too, especially in Hawai’i. Your stay includes a bag of fresh, medium-roast whole bean locally grown and roasted coffee. When you’re ready to brew, grind a batch and use the in-suite coffee maker. All suites include a drip machine and filters. Some suites include a French press. If you enjoy some light science in the morning and are experienced with residential manual espresso machines, connect with the concierge desk and we’ll have one ready for you. Coffee shop lovers can head over to Queens’ Marketplace for Starbucks, or to one of the various local companies on the resort.
